Framing 101: Understanding the Backbone of Your Home

The Importance of Structural Framing

When building a custom home in Calgary, the framing stage is arguably the most critical. It sets the template for every trade that follows. If the framing is out of square by even a fraction of an inch, it can cause headaches for drywallers, cabinet installers, and tilers down the road.

Components of a Frame

  • Joists: Horizontal structural members used to support a floor or ceiling.
  • Studs: Vertical framing members in walls, typically 2x4 or 2x6.
  • Trusses: Prefabricated triangular frameworks used to support the roof.

At AMMO Construction, we use laser precision layout tools to ensure every wall is plumb and square, adhering strictly to the Alberta Building Code.
